FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes — every tool on this site is 100% free with no limits, no signup and no watermarks.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server.
Does it handle leap years correctly?
Yes. The calculation uses real calendar arithmetic, so leap years (like 2024 and 2028) and months of different lengths are all accounted for automatically.
Can I calculate how long until a future date?
Absolutely. Set the start date to today and the end date to your target (a wedding, exam, or product launch) to get an exact countdown in years, months, and days.
Is the end date included in the count?
The result is the mathematical difference between the two dates. If you need an inclusive count (for example, a 10-day leave including both endpoints), add one day to the total.
What date format should I use?
Just use the built-in date picker — it follows your browser and device locale. Under the hood the tool works with the ISO format YYYY-MM-DD, which is unambiguous everywhere.
Date Duration Calculator — Complete Guide
How many days until your visa expires? How long have you been at your job? What's the exact length of a contract from signing to renewal? Counting days on a calendar is slow and error-prone — especially across leap years and month boundaries. This date duration calculator does the calendar math for you in a single click, entirely in your browser.
What the tool calculates
Enter any two dates and get the precise duration between them, expressed several ways: full years, remaining months and days; total weeks; and the raw total-day count. The total-days number is the most useful for anything contractual — rental agreements, warranties, probation periods, and subscription billing all run on exact day counts, not on "about three months."
Everyday use cases
Project planning: Measure sprint lengths, construction timelines, or campaign durations. HR and employment: Calculate tenure for experience letters, gratuity eligibility, or notice periods. Travel and immigration: Tourist visas often allow "90 days within 180" — count your days precisely to avoid overstays. Personal milestones: Anniversaries, sobriety counters, fitness streaks, and "days since" trackers. Education: Count school terms, exam preparation windows, and assignment deadlines.
How date math actually works
Calendars are irregular: months have 28–31 days and leap years add a February 29 every four years (with century exceptions). Doing this by hand means looking up each month's length. The calculator handles all of it — pick February 2024 as a start date and it correctly knows that month had 29 days, while February 2025 had 28.
Tips for accurate results
Double-check whether your use case needs an inclusive or exclusive count. A hotel stay from the 1st to the 5th is 4 nights (exclusive of checkout day) but 5 calendar days inclusive. Legal and HR documents usually specify which convention applies — when in doubt, state your assumption alongside the number. For countdowns to future events, re-run the calculation on the day itself, since "days remaining" shrinks daily.
Privacy note
Dates can be sensitive — medical timelines, legal deadlines, employment history. This calculator never uploads anything; both dates stay on your device.
